Sting - Shape Of My Heart - about a gambler's philosophical thoughts

Sting - Shape Of My Heart

1993 - the year in which this song came out, a sad year for music as this song did not receive any awards, which is a clear example of how the music industry got corrupted a long time ago. There has been a lot of controversy around what this song is written about, and as I personally think songs are written for people to relate to them however they wish here's a what Sting himself wrote this song about :

"I wanted to write about a card player, a gambler who gambles not to win but to try and figure out something; to figure out some kind of mystical logic in luck, or chance; some kind of scientific, almost religious law. So this guy's a philosopher, he's not playing for respect and he's not playing for money, he's just trying to figure out the law - there has to be some logic to it. He's a poker player so it's not easy for him to express his emotions, in fact he doesn't express anything, he has a mask, and it's just one mask and it never changes." (thanks, Monica - London, England).
This song was featured in the ending credits for the movie "Leon: The Professional (1994)" and is also one of the few songs co-written by Sting's long time guitarist, Dominic Miller.

Writer: STING/MILLER, DOMINIC JAMES

He deals the cards as a meditation
And those he plays never suspect
He doesn't play for the money he wins
He don't play for respect
He deals the cards to find the answer
The sacred geometry of chance
The hidden law of a probable outcome
The numbers lead a dance
I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart
He may play the jack of diamonds
He may lay the queen of spades
He may conceal a king in his hand
While the memory of it fades
I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart
And if I told you that I loved you
You'd maybe think there's something wrong
I'm not a man of too many faces
The mask I wear is one
Those who speak know nothing
And find out to their cost
Like those who curse their luck in too many places
And those who fear are lost
I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart
