This is a special song in many ways. Firstly it introduced the Red Hot Chili Peppers to the wide audience as being an unexpected success and it's video received heavy airplay on many music channels. It later peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and caused the band to receive a lot of attention which was a bit too much to handle for John Frusciante and he left the band. He was also developing a heroine addiction at the time which didn't help also. Here's Anthony Kiedis' muse for creating the lyrics: "the loneliness that I was feeling triggered memories of my time with Ione and how I'd had this beautiful angel of a girl who was willing to give me all of her love, and instead of embracing that, I was downtown with fucking gangsters shooting speedballs under a bridge". This song marks the day before I'll be seeing the Red Hot Chili Peppers live for the first time and I really hope to hear this one there tomorrow. This is a great song in the history of the band and it deserves at least one listen from your side :)
