"Come Out And Play" is a really joyful song with a kind of arabic melody to it that makes it complete. At the time the song was gaining success the lead guitarist of the band has said that he was planning on quitting the band but with the it's success he changed his mind and after that we all know the story of how "The Offspring" came to be one the most influential punk rock band of the 90's. The song reached number 1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart in 1994.
You gotta keep'm separated
They're like the latest fashion
They're like a spreading disease
The kids are strappin' on their way to the classroom
Getting weapons with the greatest of ease
The gangs stake out campus locale
And if they catch you slippin' then it's all over pal
If one guy's colors and the other's don't mix
They're gonna bash it up
Bash it up x3
Hey, man you talkin' back to me
Take him out
You gotta keep'em separated
Hey, man you disrespecting me
take him out
You gotta keep'em separated
Hey, they don't pay no mind
If you're under 18 you won't be doing any time
Hey, come out and play
By the time you hear the siren
It's already too late
One goes to the morgue and the other jail
One guy's wasted and the other's a waste
It goes down the same as the thousand before
No one's getting smarter
No one's learning the score
Your never ending spree of death and violence and hate
Is gonna tie your own rope
Tie your own rope
Tie your own
Hey, man you disrespecting me
take him out
You gotta keeep'em separated
Hey, man you talkin' back to me
take him out
You gotta keep'em separated
Hey, don't pay no mind
If you're under 18 you won't be doing any time
Hey, come out and play

This hit single, along with Gotta Get Away and Self Esteem (not to mention the hardcore punk anthem Bad Habit) made punk rock what it is today. No offense to Green Day -great guys, great attitude, great band; there music is no competition to The Offspring's in anyway. Without Smash, the punk/pop/grunge scene of the 90s would not have been a phenomenon that it came to be due to The Offspring's persistence in writing and recording some of the most powerful songs ever in the history of music. The Offspring is one of the most important rock artists of all time. They did for punk what Ozzy did for metal and what Michael Jackson did for pop. The truest, punkest, most influential, and successful punk rock act of all time....thank you....long live The Offspring...
